A walk 600m down the hill takes you to one of Auckland's Secret Places.
In amongst the hustle and bustle of suburbs is somewhere to retreat
A volcanic crater that holds an ever changing tidal lagoon that's used for kayaking, yachting, fishing, and, in one corner, water-skiing. It's home to shags, oyster catchers and ducks.
(Sorry - this page takes a little while to load completely - 20 or so pics slows it down a bit- but it's worth waiting for)
A tarsealed path goes right round the lagoon, used by joggers, cyclists, dog walkers, mothers with prams, and people just taking a stroll in early evening. A place to calm down from the hassles of the day.
Exercise equipment at intervals around pathway
Two kids playgrounds
Model boat pond
Miniature railway and picnic area for kids. They have 3 or 4 ride-on trains of various sizes
Great place for kids to learn to sail - enough wind to move boats, but sheltered enough that they can't get into trouble
And, a modern public swimming pool and fitness centre
